From world-famous spectacles like the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta to local favorites like the Harvest Festival and Día de los Muertos on the Plaza, there’s no shortage of ways to soak in the spirit of the season. Whether you’re a foodie, art enthusiast, film buff, or just looking to enjoy the fall atmosphere, Santa Fe has something for everyone this month. 

Fall Activities at Ski Santa Fe (Through October 12) 

Catch the golden aspens at their peak during Fall Activities at Ski Santa Fe, running through October 12. Ride the brand-new Santa Fe Express High-Speed Quad lift to the top of Upper Broadway and soak in breathtaking views. Afterward, enjoy disc golf, live music, and the beer garden. Don’t forget—purchase your 2025/2026 Season Pass and you’ll get to ride the chairlift for free! 

Santa Fe Artists Market (Every Saturday) 

Every Saturday, the Santa Fe Artists Market fills the Railyard Arts District with pottery, jewelry, photography, textiles, and more from local juried artists. Now in its sixteenth season, this market is a great way to connect with the city’s creative spirit and take home a unique piece of Santa Fe. 

Santa Fe Farmers’ Market (Every Saturday) 

Also happening weekly, the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market brings together more than 150 farmers and producers from Northern New Mexico. Voted one of the top ten farmers’ markets in the country, it’s the perfect spot to grab fresh produce, baked goods, and locally made specialties. 

Santa Fe Harvest Festival (October 4–5) 

Step back in time at the Santa Fe Harvest Festival, held on historic ranch grounds. Stomp grapes, string chile ristras, explore a pumpkin patch, and enjoy hayrides under colorful cottonwoods. With docents in period dress, artisan vendors, and local food and drink, it’s a seasonal celebration rooted in New Mexico’s rich traditions. 

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta (October 4–12) 

Just an hour from Santa Fe, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a world-famous spectacle. Hundreds of hot air balloons take to the skies at sunrise and sunset. Stay in Santa Fe for a peaceful retreat and use the convenient roundtrip shuttle service from downtown hotels to reach the fiesta without hassle. 

Railyard Artisan Market (Every Sunday)

Santa Fe Indigenous People’s Day Weekend Celebration (October 11–13) 

Celebrate the heritage of New Mexico’s 23 Tribes, Nations, and Pueblos during the Indigenous People’s Day Weekend Celebration. Expect award-winning drumming, dancing, and singing on the Historic Plaza, plus booths hosted by Native-led non-profits. Don’t miss the Honoring Native Nations Powwow on Monday, October 13, featuring a parade of Nations, vendor booths, and powwow dancing. 

Santa Fe International Film Festival (October 15–20) 

Film lovers won’t want to miss the 17th Annual Santa Fe International Film Festival. Featuring more than 150 films and filmmakers from around the world, this six-day event transforms downtown theaters, galleries, and restaurants into buzzing cultural hubs. Attendees can enjoy screenings, panels, special receptions, and the latest in independent and international cinema. 

Spirits of New Mexico (October 24–25) 

Lantern-lit paths and ghostly tales set the stage for Spirits of New Mexico, a family-friendly evening event with a spooky twist. Wander through historic grounds, sip local brews and ciders, and listen to stories of New Mexico’s past residents who may still linger. It’s the only nighttime event of its kind in Santa Fe. 

Día de los Muertos on the Plaza (October 31–November 1) 

Bright marigolds, traditional costumes, decorated masks, and festive music fill the Santa Fe Plaza for Día de los Muertos. This free, two-day community celebration includes live entertainment, food trucks, a screening of Coco, and a candlelight parade. Visitors are encouraged to dress in Día de los Muertos attire and join the celebration. 

Railyard Arts District Last Friday Art Walk (October 31) 

End the month with the Railyard Arts District Art Walk, featuring world-class contemporary art at ten galleries plus SITE Santa Fe. Stroll from gallery to gallery between 5 and 7 pm to see international and local works in a unique warehouse-style setting.
